Basic health information for travelers to Tunisia
• All travellers should seek medical advice before travelling to the country and ensure that all appropriate vaccinations are up to date.
• Tunisia has skilled albeit expensive medical facilities. Doctors are likely to demand instant payment for any services rendered. Emergency air evacuation to the United States may be necessary in the event of a serious accident or illness and travel insurance is recommended.
Basic security information for travelers to Tunisia
• British Foreign and Common Wealth Office advice: Travellers may encounter increased security near strategic sites, such as the Presidential palace, main government and military buildings and police stations. You should carry a form of photo ID at all times (such as a copy of your passport) and be prepared to show this to uniformed security officials if asked to do so. we currently advise against all but essential travel to areas of Tunisia within 40km of the Libyan border. We advise those who do need to cross the border into Libya to check the FCO travel advice for Libya. This restriction in our travel advice does not affect the main tourist resorts in Tunisia, where there are no travel restrictions.
• Acts of armed robbery and pick pocketing are common in this country. Travellers are advised to keep their passport and other valuables in a safe and secure location for the duration of their visit and should avoid any obvious displays of affluence which could attract unwanted attention.
